TRI-COUNTY CONEWAGO CREEK ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING, SEPTEMBER 18, 2002, 7:00 PM MINUTES I. Growing Greener Grant Board must complete some paperwork for the Growing Greener grant. The Board looked over the paperwork and agreed it would be easiest for Matt Royer to complete the paperwork on his own, as there were no issues that needed to be discussed by the Board. WREN Grant projects were also discussed. Kerry Royer works with a freelance designer who may be able to design both the brochures and the web site. It was agreed that we should get some more information from Kerry regarding prices, etc. II. Stoffel Project A workday will be held on Saturday, September 28th. Workers should meet at Lawn Fire Co. parking lot at 8:30 am and bring work gloves and pruners. This is to prepare the property for planting of seed in October. TCCCA is still attempting to facilitate funding for the grass seed. Cheasapeake Bay Foundation will only pay for nonnative fescue mix. This is not recommended by Tim and Joe. CBF will not pay for Ernst native mix. After brief discussion, the Board voted to pay for half of the seed mix if need be. Matt will talk to Frank Rohrer of CBF this week and follow up with other Directors. Matt will also touch base with Jineen to see of the cost of seed could be covered under the Growing Greener grant. The idea of starting a native plant nursery was discussed. The Board voted to approach Bob Censier about chairing this project. Other landowners that may be interested in projects include Jim Hess, Cliff and Lynn Orley and Hershey Trust. It was agreed that TCCCA should keep dialogue with these landowners and approach about projects in the future, perhaps in the spring. III. Art Show Help is still needed for Sunday, September 22nd. Nancy Kachniasz volunteered to help in the morning on Sunday. Matt will send directions to Lynn's over email this week. IV. Monitoring and Assessments A discussion was held on use of the 1997 SRBC assessment data. TCCCA now has a copy of the data. After a brief discussion, it was agreed that Tom Murray should review the data and report to the Board at a later date, possibly November. Perhaps another Watershed Snapshot should be held next spring to "launch" a monitoring program. Idea of applying for a Growing Greener grant for a watershed assessment was also discussed. The Board voted to explore the idea of applying for a grant and begin interviewing consultants. The Board decided to set up interviews with Skelly & Loy and Rettew, possibly for October 9th and 16th. The County Conservation District watershed specialists will also be invited to attend. V. Rails-to-Trails TCCCA Display Tom Murray showed the Board a rough lay out of the display. It was agreed that the display looked very good and TCCCA should be able to use it for future events. Matt will check with Jack Smith to see if we can use some of his old photos for the display. VI. New Business Lancaster County Watershed Forum: Saturday, October 5th, 9AM – 1 PM, Lancaster Co. Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. call Matt Kofroth, 299-5361 ext 124, for more details. Tom Murray will present; other TCCCA members encouraged to attend. VII.
