Watershed Snapshot Update The "Watershed Snapshot", an on-the-stream aquatic assessment, will be held on Saturday, April 20th at 8:00 am. All interested should meet at the Mill Road Elementary School parking lot in Elizabethtown and will depart for the first sampling spot (Aberdeen Mills) from there. Elizabethtown College students will also be participating in this activity. A press release promoting the event will be released. V. Stream Cleanup Update The stream cleanup is schedule for Saturday, May 11th at 8:00 am. The group will meet at the Lawn Fire Company on Route 241 (Mt. Gretna Road). The target area will most likely be the area of the Conewago where it flows under Route 283 and the Old Hershey Road, as well as a large streambank dump on Hertzler Road. VI. Other Business Matt Kofroth extended an invitation to a 3-day DEP workshop entitled "Watershed Academy" to be held May 7th-9th in Center County. The Dauphin County Conservation group is selling seedlings to the public. Information packets were available to all members. A few landowners have shown interest in buffers and redoing streambanks. A goal for the TCCCA is to have at least one streambank planning project underway by late-summer/early-fall. Discussion was held on a new location for the April meeting. There was concern that the Londonderry Township Building was not a central enough location. The Lawn Fire Department has agreed to let the TCCCA meet in their facility. Matt Royer extended an invitation from the Codorus Creek watershed organization to attend their meeting on Thursday, March 28th at the York College Alumni Hall. They are interested in developing a "Riverkeepers Program". Landowner liaisons and a landowner database are important components to the TCCCA. There is a need for volunteers to help put together these items for Lancaster, Lebanon, and Dauphin Counties. VII. Guest Presentation: Donegal Creek Stream Restoration Project Mark Metzler, a Watershed Specialist from RETTEW Associates gave an in-depth and informative presentation on a stream restoration project spearheaded by the Lancaster County Conservation District. The Donegal has been changed from a sediment-laden pasture into a wild trout stream in which wild brown trout eggs were successfully hatched. Mark had some very helpful tips on how to approach landowners, promotion through the use of signs, and simple but effective tools to improve water quality and fish habitat. IV. Next Meeting The next TCCCA meeting will be held at the Lawn Fire Company, Route 241 (Mt. Gretna Road) on Wednesday, April 24th from 7:00-9:00 pm.
