Tri-County Conewago Creek Association Assesses Creek
Watershed Group Plans Sampling Project at Monthly Meeting

CONEWAGO CREEK AREA (EAST SHORE) – In an effort to learn more about assessing the water quality of the Conewago Creek, the Tri-County Conewago Creek Association (TCCCA) will hold its monthly meeting live “on the stream.” The meeting will feature a demonstration by aquatic biologist Jen Hoffman of the Susquehanna River Basin Commission. Hoffman will show TCCCA how to sample aquatic insects in the Conewago. The community is invited to attend. The monthly meeting has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday, August 29, 2002. Members will meet at 7 p.m. at the Lawn Fire Company, Rt. 241 (Mt. Gretna Road). Please bring wading shoes or waders if you desire to get into the creek.

TCCCA will also conduct an upcoming fundraiser event: an Art Sale to Benefit TCCCA. The art sale will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 21-22, as part of the Kingston Pottery Home Show, South Geyers Church Road, Middletown. All area artists are encouraged to provide works of art for sale at this fundraiser. A minimum of 10 percent of sale proceeds will benefit TCCCA. Contact Matt Royer at 651-0978 for more information.

TCCCA is committed to monitoring, preserving, enhancing and promoting the Conewago Creek Watershed through education, community involvement and watershed improvement projects. The Conewago Creek Watershed encompasses more than 50 square miles in parts of eight different municipalities in Lancaster, Dauphin and Lebanon Counties. Its headwaters are in Mt. Gretna and it discharges into the Susquehanna near the village of Falmouth. TCCCA is involved in actual activities designed to protect and improve the water quality of the Conewago, such as stabilizing stream banks to prevent erosion, adding shade and further erosion protection by planting trees along the creek, and conducting educational and public outreach initiatives.

The next monthly meeting of TCCCA will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2002. TCCCA holds its regular meetings at 7:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of every month at the Lawn Fire Co. Building. All members of the public are invited to attend and become members of TCCCA.
