Lebanon Valley Rails-to-Trail Opening Ceremony, October 26, 2002
On the morning of October 26, 2002, a new four-mile stretch of the Lebanon
Valley Rails-to-Trail was dedicated in a ceremony at the Lawn Fire Company
Building. TCCCA was invited to set up a display at the ceremony.

The Rails-to-Trail is an important recreational feature of the Conewago
Creek Watershed. The trail parallels the Conewago Creek throughout much of
its length. The section that was dedicated in October links the Conewago
Recreational Trail in Lancaster County with the upper portion of the
Lebanon Valley Rails-To-Trail in near Colebrook and Mt. Gretna in Lebanon
Valley. This enables hikers and bikers to traverse a large portion of the
Conewago Creek, from its headwaters in Mt. Gretna to its lower stretches
near Route 230.
Over 100 citizens attended the ceremony, which was highlighted by speeches
by local officials, a ribbon cutting, and a children’s Halloween costume
parade. Representatives from TCCCA who ran the informational booth handed
out literature on the group and talked to many people who were interested
in TCCCA’s work. The day provided TCCCA with a terrific opportunity to
increase its visibility in the community. Special thanks to John Wengert,
President of Lebanon Valley Rails-to-Trails, Inc. for the invitation.
