Funded by a 319 grant from the PA Department of Environmental Protection and US Environmental Protection Agency, TCCCA recently completed work on a bioswale retrofit in the Lynch Run watershed, a tributary of the Conewago. A stormwater swale on the Friends in Action property receives runoff from upstream properties and was suffering from erosion during storm events. The project restored the swale into a bioswale with a series of wetland pools to reduce erosion, improve water quality, and enhance habitat. TCCCA’s consultant, Spring Hill Partners, and contractor Commander Contracting completed work in May and TCCCA joined Penn State “Greening the Lower Susquehanna” volunteers to plant 450 wetland plant plugs on May 31. Native meadow seed was also established at the site to enhance onsite habitat. The project complements an existing forest riparian buffer restoration along the tributary of Lynch Run that flows through the property. Thanks to all involved, especially Friends in Action for their willingness to host this project!
