Monitoring

As a partner member of the Conewago Creek Initiative, TCCCA helped develop a comprehensive monitoring plan for the Conewago Creek watershed. Many partners, including Elizabethtown College, Penn State, Dauphin County Conservation District, Lancaster County Conservation District, USGS, PA DEP, and SRBC, are partners on the Initiative’s monitoring team and work together to monitor the Conewago on a regular basis.

As part of this plan, TCCCA has partnered with the Penn State Agriculture and Environment Center, Lancaster County Conservation District, and Susquehanna River Basin Commission to survey fish populations of the Conewago Creek every three years. Fish surveys are conducted at three locations: (1) Game Lands 145 in Colebrook, (2) the Hershey Meadows site, and (3) Covered Bridge Road. This monitoring helps TCCCA and its partners understand what effect restoration efforts are having on Conewago fish populations Conewago Creek and how much work is still left to be done.
