The Tri-County Conewago Creek Association, Penn State Greening the Lower Susquehanna volunteers, and Elizabethown Rotary partnered on a big task on March 15: cleaning up the Hershey Meadows buffer. This buffer project was one of TCCCA’s first big projects in the watershed, and it involved 20 acres of forest buffer restoration on the Conewago Creek between Routes 743 and 283. Over the years, the trees have grown into a young streamside forest, but many tree tubes remained. Streamside trash from roadways and flooding had also accumulated.
Eleven hearty volunteers worked for three hours on the afternoon of Sunday, March 15 to accomplish the task. The entire bank on the Lancaster County side of the creek was cleaned up, with tree tubes removed and other trash picked up–enough to fill a truck! Special thanks to Glen for providing the truck and waste hauling services, and to all of the volunteers who showed up for our first volunteer event of the year.
